Programme Structure & Delivery
How is the programme delivered?
NPQEL runs over an 18-month cycle blending six facilitated “face-to-face” event days (delivered remotely for international participants), structured online study, practical in-school activities, and leadership performance coaching - so you can apply learning immediately in your context. bpninternational.com
What are the key components and time commitments?
Across the programme you complete 6 event days, around 38 hours of online study, 4 formative assessment tasks linked to your practice, and 6 hours of one-to-one coaching, adding up to approximately 116 guided learning hours. bpninternational.com
What happens at the event days and in the online courses?
Events introduce the context for each cycle (e.g., ethical leadership, implementing change, culture and ethos, leading teaching, organisational effectiveness, readiness and review), while online learning includes two short courses and three full courses with modules on culture, behaviour, professional development, teaching, curriculum and assessment, SEND, organisational management, partnerships, and governance. bpninternational.com
What is a Leadership Performance Coach?
Your Leadership Performance Coach is an experienced educator who is your main point of contact, provides feedback on practice activities and formative tasks, supports workload management, and helps you evaluate impact, ensuring you stay on track throughout the qualification. bpninternational.com
Eligibility & Application
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants need support from their school or organisation, including a sponsor in a senior role who can confirm the support and accuracy of application information, they should be proficient in English, and typically have at least three years’ headship experience or equivalent executive-level responsibility across schools. A Teacher Reference Number (TRN) is also required, however, if you do not already have one then you will be supported to obtain one during the registration process.

Do I need a Teacher Reference Number (TRN)?
Yes, a TRN uniquely identifies you within England’s education system and is needed to complete mandatory NPQ surveys and access your DfE certificate upon successful completion of your programme.

Assessment & Outcomes
How will I be assessed?
To pass NPQEL you must engage with at least 90% of the required course elements and complete a final summative assessment in the form of a written case-study response (maximum 1,500 words) submitted within an eight-day window. bpninternational.com
